About the first conference in 2013

IAPCHE held the first conference in May 2013, which drew dozens of participants from a diverse range of regions, academic specializations, denominations, and experiences. This first conference was highly successful, as exemplified by some of the comments below shared by participants:

The 2013 IAPCHE conference at Calvin College was indeed a rich harvest for me and a moment of grace and gratitude to ponder the great work, which God is doing through many committed Christian scholars from across the globe. It offered me the opportunity of sharing with many scholars and practitioners from different parts of the world on the exciting new frontiers, challenges, and opportunities of partnership required in internationalizing Christian Higher Education today.

I must say that it was so nice to fellowship and feel the presence of God in a room full of academics.

There was considerable intellectual power and energy of will represented at the conference. Some remarkable people in disciplines affiliated to the "internationalization" mission were there, asking penetrating questions, eager for "light" to be shed on the intersection of faith and global learning. It made for many teachable moments. I was particularly impressed with the seriousness with which many younger colleagues (in 30s and 40s) are engaged in this work--as unit directors, faculty, etc. They need a professional body to expand understandings and refine practice.

**************

The IAPCHE conference provided a space for going deeper than the Forum on Education Abroad allows, bringing together a diverse mix of faculty, program personnel, administrators, and thinkers who are engaging Christian higher education not only as formation, but also as a means of building a more responsible and just global society.

**************

The conference was something of a life-changing event for me. While the themes of most of the sessions did not apply to me or our Institute, the time of fellowship, learning, networking and meaningful discussion with fellow academics from different cultures was extremely useful.
